For the last eight seasons, save for a lone one-and-done playoff appearance, the Browns have have been the the keynote speakers at a "How Not To Run An NFL Franchise" symposium. This once-proud franchise has been the butt of many a national media joke, and have gotten little to no respect nationally.
And deservedly so.
That could be changing, however.
According to a member of an unnamed NFL front office I spoke to earlier this week, there is a mini-buzz growing in league circles as to the moves made the past two offseasons by general manager Phil Savage and his staff.
And it's a buzz that portends blue skies after years of dark clouds engrossing the organization.
"You look at the holes this team had (when Savage took over in 2005), and you look at the roster now, how can you not be impressed?" the source asked rhetorically.
"They've gone from being a complete laughing stock to being on the cusp of something really, really good. You hear the chatter at the various league functions and in daily conversations. There was that chatter before, but now it's positive and not just a bunch of snickering."
That being said, the source offered one note of caution, and that's in regard to current head coach Romeo Crennel.
"(Crennel) is a good guy and a class guy, but a lot of people are of the opinion that he might be in over his head as a head coach," the front office exec said.

I thought about this. I am not a blogger, but obviously, if I need to find your material, I'll look for it.
Your information is too good to be hidden in a blog. It should be on the front page. If you have updates, just indicate a time so we know it is an update.
What ever is the best for the development of the Orange and Browns Report, I am for.
Again, I just think your material is too good to be hidden in a blog. I like reading it on the front page.
I feel the same way about Crennel. He just doesn't seem to have what it takes to be a great leader and that's what the head coach needs to be.
He may be able to lead a defense but his persona as a head coach just isn't there.
You can tell just by listening to his press conferences.
I guess I should've explained this a little bit better in The Tap Room.
Barry will have a permanent link on the front page to this blog. I will use that link to update a time stamp each time put new material on the blog.
Additionally, any premium 411 will still be treated the same way it has in the past: with it's own story and big headline on the front page. Premium info will NOT go into this blog. Well, maybe little tidbits here and there, but no major premium stories will be "broken" on here.
And thanks for your kind words. They are greatly appreciated.
As for RAC, I tend to agree. And I hate saying that because he is indeed a classy guy.
Later.

PS: Just lemme ask you guys one favor. In the future, if you wouldn't mind, put your OBR user name at the end of your comments. That way, I'll know who's yelling at me. Or I can ignore them if their names rhyme with "ramllov". ;-)
No problem John.
That was my post about feeling Crennel does not have what it takes.
